Overview
Perched majestically on a hill 236 meters above sea level, Agadir Oufella (also known as the Agadir Kasbah) is the historic heart and soul of the city. Originally built in the 16th century by the Saadian dynasty to protect the port from foreign raids, this elevated stronghold offers one of the most beautiful 360-degree vantage points in southern Morocco, displaying sweeping views of Agadir Bay, the marina, and the endless Atlantic coastline. Tragically destroyed during the devastating 1960 earthquake, the site stands as a powerful monument of memory, faith, and human resilience. Following extensive modern rehabilitation efforts, visitors can now explore the beautifully restored outer ramparts and walk along newly installed raised wooden walkways inside the fortress, where ancient history seamlessly meets the present day.

Activity Requirements & Etiquette
- Physical Effort: Low to light — the site features accessible, paved entrance areas and raised wooden walkways inside the fortress; a short 10–15 minute walk may be required depending on your choice of transport.
- Essential Tips: Bring a camera for the stunning panoramic shots, along with a light jacket as mountain breezes can get cool, especially during evening or night visits. Late afternoon and sunset are the most popular times for magical lighting and cooler temperatures.
- Cultural Etiquette: As the kasbah is a final resting place and a sacred site of memory for many victims of the 1960 earthquake, visitors are required to stick strictly to the designated wooden walkways out of respect.
- Safety/Conditions: The site is highly secure and fully developed for all ages. Mind the local vendors or camel handlers at the top, and politely decline services if you are not interested.
